Seven Desert Wings has the health and well being of the whole horse in mind.
Our goal is to achieve balance on a physical, physiological and emotional level. We start from the ground up – with the hooves. Nature intended the horse to roam free over long distances each day having to survive with little food, foraging along, wearing their own hooves over rocks, sand, granite or lava and having to find water and shelter.
We have domesticated the horse and so it is our responsibility to care for our friends and provide them with an environment that resembles their natural habitat the best we can. But even if we are limited in this we can be creative with active paddocks and a herd environment to create maximum movement. Diet and maintaining their hooves to support correct structure and flowing movement are key ingredients for a healthy horse.
My journey started in Germany about 15 years ago with a study of Homeopathy and other alternative treatments for animals like magnetic field therapy, leech therapy, nutrition and massage. When I came to Maui I studied and practiced massage therapy on people for about six years and learned about acupuncture, moxibustion and Chinese herbs. Currently I am studying acupuncture for horses.
For the past years I have been working with horses and collected my own little herd. Each horse has taught me about their health and dis-ease and the power to heal themselves if given the chance and the right set-up. This has lead me to study bare foot trimming and the anatomy of the hoof. I am currently offering Barefoot Trimming, Booting and Casting. This includes maintenance trims as well as transitioning horses from shoes to bare hooves with the help of boots or castings and rehabilitating horses after health issues concerning their feet in any way. There is so much to learn and I am dedicated to keep learning and taking care of our equine friends the best I can.
I am also teaching Natural Horsemanship skills.
